Objective

The main principle of this website is it to make articles accessible in a simple way in different languages. The articles on this site shall be done to the greatest possible extent without any references to secondary literature, which however will not always be possible. Original documents will always be the basis for the articles, and merged within the articles whenever possible.

The articles will be "alive" in many cases. By this I understand that facts could not be clarified sufficiently at creation of an article and it experiences a change or an addition when new sources help closing existing gaps. It's in particular in the nature of some topics that the examples specified in an article, will be extended later in their numbers as well as in detail.

New publications, changes and additions of articles will be announced in the news section of the homepage. It is not yet possible to know, what the interval between publication of new articles will be. The time needed to write an article is hard to predict and is not to be underestimated.

A majority of the primary sources originates from the federal military archive (BAMA) Freiburg. In order to be allowed to publish these sources without to have to pay fees, the adherence to several rules is necessary.

Rules for the publication of archived documents from the BAMA Freiburg

The rendition of archives property of all kinds (fixed images) by the non-commercial and freely accessible supply of digital conversion forms in the internet remains free of charge, as far as it cannot be abused for reproduction purposes.
The picture resolution may not exceed 75 dpi.
The largest side of a photography may not exceed 300 pixels.
The largest side of record may not exceed 800 pixels.
Technical precautions are to be taken against simple downloading of the scanned documents and photos (blockage of the right mouse button).
The material is to be marked by a visible water-mark.

Source situation

In my constantly growing collection are at present approx. 75,000 - 100,000 document pages. These are available to me in smaller numbers as originals, in their large majority as paper copies and scans of originals or on microfilms. The initial emphasis was with documents of the Luftwaffe, in the meantime however in connection with my book project the focus moved on to documents of the Heer. Documents to the Kriegsmarine constitute so far only a small part of my original sources, which will unfortunately settle in the quantity of the articles of the Kriegsmarine.

If you have interest to publish own articles here based on original sources or to exchange original sources about the Wehrmacht, please contact me directly via m.rausch(at)beim-zeugmeister.de.

Planned next articles or expansions
